625 James Alexander Way in Davidson was awarded LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for achievement in green homebuilding and design. LEED for Homes is a green home certification system for assuring homes are designed and built to be energy- and resource-efficient and healthy for occupants. LEED certified homes complete a technically rigorous process that includes a home energy (HERS) rating and onsite inspections to verify that the home is built to be energy and water efficient, environmentally sound, and a healthier place to live.
625 James Alexander Way is one of 4 homes in Davidson that have been LEED certified, all of which have been built by John Marshall Custom Homes of Davidson. John Marshall Custom Homes is North Carolina’s leading private builder of LEED certified homes.
Green homes have substantially lower utility bills [1]and may qualify for advantageous financing, lower insurance rates and government incentives. This particular home is 45% more energy efficient that a house built to code, and over 60% more efficient than a typical existing home. Through their commitment to green homebuilding, John Marshall Custom Homes is helping to keep homeownership affordable.
“This home at 625 James Alexander Way was particularly gratifying to build,” says Rodney Graham, owner of John Marshall Custom Homes. “This family really wanted to be in downtown Davidson close to public transportation and other services, and as a custom homebuilder we were able to design a floor plan that fit their needs. I love what the homeowner has done to the home since they’ve moved in, and since I live across the street I get to enjoy looking at it every day.”
Located less than a half mile from the Village Green, 625 James Alexander Way is within walking distance of public transportation, shops, open space and other conveniences. The home focuses heavily on reducing energy use. The four bedroom project features low-e argon windows, highly efficient heating and air systems, water efficient fixtures and spray foam insulation. Other energy efficiency upgrades include instantaneous water heaters, programmable thermostats, efficient bath fans, as well as mechanical fresh air ventilation.
James Alexander Way is located in Davidson Springs, a 9 home development in downtown Davidson. To date, 3 of the homes have been LEED certified with 3 others in various stages of the certification process. All of the homes will be ENERGY STAR certified upon completion. John Marshall Custom Homes is currently developing a ‘pocket neighborhood’ in downtown Davidson that will feature 15 LEED and ENERGY STAR certified homes.
