HIP ROOF NEW HOME

Older neighborhoods in Cornelius, North Carolina feature a number of older homes with a distinctive hip roof style.  Rodney Graham, owner of John Marshall Custom Homes, was driving through Cornelius one day and was taken by one of these older hipped roof homes.  Rodney snapped a photo of this home and sent it to an architect, Kenny Craft of Craft Designs, who specializes in a traditional style with a unique flair.

Feeling that a home with a hip roof would fit in nicely with the existing homes along Delburg Street in Davidson, many of which have hipped roofs, Rodney hired Kenny to come up with a home plan for what would be one of the first homes in our Carnegie Mews pocket neighborhood on Delburg Street.

At the same time, an interested potential client entered the mix, and they met Kenny for drinks one time to discuss a possible house plan.  At the end of that meeting Kenny had literally sketched out the front elevation on a napkin and gave it to the client.  As the plans progressed beyond the napkin stage, that front elevation remained the same.

The resulting home is a study in a modern home with the feel of an older home.  The objective of blending in with the adjacent homes on Delburg Street was met.  Inside the home is simply stunning, with all of the modern conveniences that you would expect from John Marshall Custom Homes.

Thank you to Megan White Photography for the beautiful photographs, and to Craft Design for the excellent architectural work.  This home was so popular that we repeated it twice (with some tweaks), which is something we rarely do.
