HURRICANE HELENE REBUILD

On September 27, 2024, the remnants of Hurricane Helene swept through the mountains of North Carolina, bringing torrential rains and winds approaching 100 mph.  The Celo Community on the South Toe River was particularly hard hit, with some gauges recording nearly 40 inches of rain over a 3-day period.

John Marshall Custom Homes led a group of professionals with a healthy dose of volunteers in the rebuilding of a cottage on the South Toe River that had been significantly damaged by floodwaters which rose about 30 feet above the normal flow of the river.

From structural improvements to a complete refinishing of the home, our team put this home back better than it was before Helene.  We were able to salvage and repurpose cabinets and countertops that we pulled out of renovation projects near our home base of Davidson, North Carolina.

A special thanks to Samaritan’s Purse who donated appliances and a mini-split system, Sam from a church in Raleigh who showed up several times with volunteers and also contributed funding, Dustin from Burnsville who organized volunteers and supplies for this home and others, and several of our personal friends who spent multiple days helping on this project.
